Is there a reason that Rarity doesn't use a contraction?
She says "Why are you not in bed?" rather than "Why aren't you in bed?" It just sounds odd when you say it out loud, even for someone as sophisticated as Rarity.

I used that sentence because when shouting, or telling children off, I have noticed that many people annunciate their words, rather than use a contraction. Rarity is definitely being the bossy big sister here so to use this style of language seems natural to me. Of course this line may well be an anglicism, but Rarity tends towards UK English anyway so I would argue that it fits.

In short, I say this quite regularly to my little sister...
